Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda has described a rally by the Opposition INDIA bloc as a “foolish and designed drama.” The rally, held in Delhi, called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and was part of the bloc’s campaign against alleged electoral irregularities.
Mr. Nadda accused the opposition, specifically mentioning Rahul Gandhi, of “rubbing salt into the wounds of Sikhs” by organizing the protest on November 1, the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He stated that the protest aimed to surrender democracy to anarchy and disorder, potentially marking a political downfall for the Congress party.
According to Mr. Nadda, the rally’s objectives included removing a democratically elected government, spreading riots and anarchy, adversely impacting Delhi traders during the festive season, and defaming the country. He highlighted the significance of November 1 as a dark day in India’s history due to the 1984 riots, which left thousands of Sikh families homeless.
The minister further claimed that the Congress and Mr. Gandhi have not apologized for the events of 1984. He characterized Mr. Gandhi’s political approach as involving lies, spreading rumors, creating unrest, harming the economy, and destabilizing the government, potentially at the behest of foreign powers. Mr. Nadda also expressed concern about the financial losses incurred by Delhi’s traders due to the protest during the festive period.
