The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell in Assam conducted a raid at the Guwahati residence of civil service officer Nupur Bora. During the operation, authorities recovered approximately ₹92 lakh in cash and jewellery valued at an estimated ₹2 crore.

Ms. Bora, a 36-year-old Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer who joined in 2019, is currently posted as a Circle Officer in Goroimari, Kamrup district, having previously served in Barpeta. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Ms. Bora had been under surveillance for six months following complaints regarding her alleged involvement in contentious land-related matters. Sarma further alleged that when she was posted in the Barpeta revenue circle, she had transferred “Hindu land to suspicious individuals in exchange for money,” adding that strict action had been taken. The Chief Minister also asserted that corruption is widespread in revenue offices in regions predominantly inhabited by minorities.

Reports indicate that a complaint claimed Ms. Bora maintained a “rate card” for various land-related services, with alleged bribe fees ranging from ₹1,500 for land maps to ₹2 lakh for altering names in land records.
