The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal concluded with the publication of the final electoral roll on February 28, revealing an 8% decrease in the total electorate, amounting to approximately 61 lakh names. This reduced the number of electors from 7.66 crore to 7.08 crore. The SIR process, generally implemented across states and Union Territories, mandated electors to 'map' themselves with previous intensive revision rolls using their own or a relative's name. In West Bengal, the enumeration phase commenced on November 4, 2025.

A notable divergence in the West Bengal process involved the Election Commission's (EC) unprecedented appointment of "micro-observers" on December 19, 2025. These observers were tasked with monitoring Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant EROs during the subsequent hearing phase—a measure that was a first for the EC in roll revision and was implemented exclusively within West Bengal. In contrast, the SIR in Uttar Pradesh has been extended, with its final electoral roll anticipated on April 10.
