The Chief Electoral Officer in Telangana is undertaking preparations for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. This exercise is contingent upon the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) official schedule announcement. Although a definitive start date has not been established, officials have been instructed to maintain readiness for the revision. The potential conduct of the SIR was a primary agenda item during an ECI meeting held on September 10 and 11. Following Odisha’s recent announcement of a similar intensive revision, Telangana and several other states are expected to initiate comparable processes in the coming weeks. Election officials anticipate the SIR, once scheduled, will establish January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date for voters. Authorities express confidence in having over two months to complete the necessary tasks. If mandated by the ECI, the SIR could potentially run concurrently with the annual special summary revision of electoral rolls, an exercise slated to begin next month with the publication of draft rolls.
