Ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections, nearly seven lakh voters have been added to the state’s electoral rolls. Officials have indicated that approximately 3.22 lakh of these additions are designated for the first phase of polling, while around 3.88 lakh will participate in the second phase. However, the election commission has not yet released detailed demographic data, such as the number of first-time voters or a gender-wise breakdown. Information regarding the volume of Form-6 applications for inclusion and subsequent rejections has also not been disclosed publicly. Following this latest revision, the total electorate in West Bengal now stands at 6,82,51,008. These additions occur after a recent Special Intensive Revision report noted a net deletion of 10.9% from the state’s rolls, primarily involving deceased, shifted, and duplicate voters.
