The Uttar Pradesh government has announced an expansion of its Annapurna Rasoi Yojana, an initiative aimed at providing affordable and nutritious meals for the urban poor. This program is set to be implemented across 17 municipal corporation areas within the state. Each meal, priced at Rs 22.50, will consist of pulses, rice, vegetables, roti, and salad, prepared under hygienic conditions. The initial phase of the expansion will involve the opening of five canteens in each of the six largest cities: Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Agra, and Prayagraj. The Urban Development Department will oversee the project, with operating costs shared equally between the department and the respective municipal corporations.
